How to Remove Car Tire from Rim
Tires worn out after a certain period and if you fail to notice that the tread has reached down to the wear mark indicator and don’t change it immediately, then you may end up stranded in the middle of the road with a flat tire. Most people think that removing a car tire from the rim can be done only in a garage.
But it is not always the case as you can easily remove it from your home if you have all the required tools handy. In a tire shop, there is a specialized machine which does the job of separating the tire from the rim easily and within minutes. But even though it can be done at home , it can be a bit tricky, but when you follow the steps provided here below, then it becomes much easier.
Disconnect the Wheel From the Car
First you need to remove the wheel from the car. You can use a jack to lift the car, loosen the lug nuts and gently disconnect the tire from your car
Remove the Valve Core
Place the tire on a flat surface with the outer rim side facing upwards. Now look for the air valve and gently twist it counter clockwise to remove it. You can find a cylindrical shaped valve core inside the air valve. Use a valve core removal tool to remove it from the tire. Once you remove the core, the tire starts deflating.
Separate the Tire From the Rim
The last and final step is to separate the tire from the rim. When it comes to removing the tire, there are various ways that you can do it from your home. Let’s look at some of the easy ways to remove the car from the rim.
One of the most traditional ways to remove the tire from the rim is using a pry bar. First break the seal on the wheel using a flat tip screw driver and the use a pry bar to create a wedge between the tire and the rim. If you find it difficult, you can use some grease over the surface of the rim which will decrease the resistance from debris while prying open the tire.
You can have someone stand on the other side of the wheel where you are prying the tire open. Use the pry bar to create a wedge throughout that entire side of the wheel. Now flip the wheel over and start prying on this side. Once you complete you can easily remove the tire from the rim
Some even say that driving a car over the tire carefully just over the rubber part of the tire can loosen up things. Make sure you don’t damage the metal rim. What it does it pushes the rubber down so that the bead automatically comes out of the groove from the rim.
You can also use a manual tire changing machine to remove the car tire from the rim.
